Seychelles
The Seychelles, officially known as the Republic of Seychelles, are a group of 158 islands in the Indian Ocean, some granite and some coral, 1600 kilometres to the east of Africa. The Seychelles are in the British Commonwealth of Nations and English is widely spoken along with French. The Republic of Seychelles is the smallest sovereign state of Africa. Thirty-three of the Seychelles Islands are inhabited.
The population of the Seychelles based on a 2006 estimate is 86,000. Tourism is the most important industry, along with fishing, though the Seychelles government is making efforts to reduce reliability on tourism as a main source of income for the islands. The Seychelles exports fish, tuna, prawns and cinnamon bark.
